Honest student compound microscope: glass optics, LED illumination, metal frame

The LabMono keeps the specification honest: 40x to 1000x is true optical magnification from a 10x eyepiece and 4x, 10x, 40x and 100x achromatic objectives — no digital zoom figures. The metal frame, mechanical stage and coaxial coarse and fine focus are the parts that decide whether a student microscope survives a school year, and they are all here. LED illumination runs from batteries or USB, so it works on a classroom table without hunting for outlets. It is an education and hobby instrument: it is not a diagnostic device and does not replace clinical laboratory equipment.

For this model the published figure is: 40x–1000x optical (10x eyepiece × 4x/10x/40x/100x objectives).
Two different things get called “magnification”. Optical magnification is produced by the lens system and carries real detail. Digital zoom enlarges the captured image on screen — the picture gets bigger, but no new detail appears, because the sensor captured a fixed amount of information. MicroHub publishes the derivation with every figure; where a headline number mixes the two, the optical range is the one to compare between models.
| Screen | None — optical eyepiece viewing |
|---|---|
| Lighting | LED transmitted light with brightness control; mirror backup not included |
| Focus | Coaxial coarse and fine focus knobs |
The working distance is the clearance between lens and subject — the space your hands and tools actually get. Screen and output decide who can watch: a built-in LCD for one pair of eyes at the bench, HDMI for a room, USB for capture and measurement.
Standalone optical instrument; optional phone adapter for photography.
Power: 3× AA batteries or USB power.
Your work is school science & stem, laboratory research, plant & specimen observation, and the specifications above — magnification, outputs and lighting — fit how you actually work. It is a beginner-level instrument at a market-rate price of $159.99.
