Slides and solid specimens in one student microscope, with dual lighting

Most student microscopes force a choice: slides, or solid objects. The STEMLab Duo does both, combining a compound path (up to 2000x optical with the included eyepieces) for prepared slides with a low-power stereo-style view for rocks, insects, leaves and coins. Dual LED lighting serves both paths, and a phone adapter clip is included so observations can be photographed and shared for assignments. Magnification figures are optical; the 2000x setting is best used for prepared slides under good light, where it stays bright and clear. A school and home-study instrument — not a laboratory diagnostic microscope.
| Focus | Coarse and fine focus knobs |
|---|---|
| Lighting | Dual LED: transmitted + incident, independently switchable |
| Magnification | 20x–2000x optical (two viewing paths, multiple eyepieces) |
| Phone adapter | Included clip adapter for eyepiece photography |
| Power | AC adapter (included) or batteries |
| Stage | Mechanical slide holder with clips |
For this model the published figure is: 20x–2000x optical (two viewing paths, multiple eyepieces).
Two different things get called “magnification”. Optical magnification is produced by the lens system and carries real detail. Digital zoom enlarges the captured image on screen — the picture gets bigger, but no new detail appears, because the sensor captured a fixed amount of information. MicroHub publishes the derivation with every figure; where a headline number mixes the two, the optical range is the one to compare between models.

The working distance is the clearance between lens and subject — the space your hands and tools actually get. Screen and output decide who can watch: a built-in LCD for one pair of eyes at the bench, HDMI for a room, USB for capture and measurement.
Standalone optical instrument; phone adapter fits most smartphones for photos.
Power: AC adapter (included) or batteries.
Your work is school science & stem, plant & specimen observation, hobby & craft inspection, and the specifications above — magnification, outputs and lighting — fit how you actually work. It is a beginner-level instrument at a market-rate price of $79.99.
